Ms. Nandi is a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and completed Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management sponsored by the American Dietetic Association. She holds a license to practice nutrition at the State of Illinois. In 1993, she received “Outstanding Research Paper Award” from the Illinois Department of Public Health. In 1995, she received “Outstanding Member of the Year Award by the Illinois Public Health Association. She authored many federal grant proposals and received public health grant awards in the areas of maternal and child health, tobacco control, obesity prevention and chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease/stroke and asthma.Ms. Nandi is involved with developing grant proposals, activities for the elimination of disparities with diabetes and cardiovascular disease and evaluation of a national Latino Tobacco Control Network.Prior to coming to UIC,she served for four years as a Chief, Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, Illinois Department of Public Health. She provided on-going leadership, administration and management of division operational activities including grant writing, program planning, evaluation, monitoring awards, communications, financial and human resource management. The division included twelve (12) federally funded programs and three state mandates. She managed funds in the amount over $18.5 million per year with over 23 employees. She also served for 11 years as the manager of Illinois Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Prior to this, she served for seven years as a Public Health Nutritionist for the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, she taught patients with diabetes at an outpatient clinic and obese patients participating in OPTIFAST weight management program.Ms. Nandi’s areas of interest are obesity prevention, healthy lifestyle and data & surveillance. She brings over 23 years of public health experience and has expertise in nutrition assessments & education, program planning & development, grant administration & management and program evaluation.
